2026 Stansted Fete

On the 5th September the weather was perfect – dry and sunny with a temperature of about 23C. The hard work of the organisers, led by Will Peat, was rewarded with a near-record turnout for the stall, vintage motor show and dog show. The afternoon was rounded off with an enthusiastic egg jarping competition. All the fun of the fair can be seen in the videos below.

2026 had been the hottest year on record, and Stansted was subject to an official drought and hosepipe ban for the Summer months. With no rain for 60 days, the ground in the recreation ground was rock hard in the lead-up to the gymkhana and pony show. Entries were very much down on normal years, and the event was reluctantly cancelled. Stansted was not alone in this, as many gymkhanas had been cancelled for this reason both locally and more widely.
